ETL Systems has secured £895,000 in funding through the European Space Agency’s ARTES programme to develop its Digital BUC/HPA project, helping support the transition from traditional hardware-based uplinks to more flexible software-defined satellite infrastructure.
As satellite operators seek greater flexibility and efficiency across their networks, the industry is shifting towards more digitised ground infrastructure. Historically, uplink systems have relied on fixed analogue hardware, but future networks require solutions that can adapt, scale and integrate seamlessly with cloud-based operations.
ETL’s Digital BUC/HPA project will support this transition by modernising satellite uplink technology. By replacing complex analogue uplink equipment with digital technology, the project aims to create a more adaptable foundation for next-generation satellite communications networks.
The funding will support the development of the technology, reinforcing ETL’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of the satellite communications industry.
