ETL and NXGSAT demonstrate interoperable end-to-end 5G NTN solution powered by DIFI

26 Mar 2026

NXGSAT has successfully showcased a fully productised and interoperable 5G/Non‑Terrestrial Network (NTN) solution, enabled by ETL’s DIGITAL 1000 RF over IP edge digitiser. The demonstration brings together NXGSAT’s software‑defined 5G NTN user equipment modem and ETL’s DIGITAL 1000 OEM module, seamlessly integrated using the Digital IF Interoperability (DIFI) standard.

This achievement shows how open, virtualised and modular satellite communication architectures can be deployed today using standardised digital interfaces. By adopting the DIFI standard across both companies’ products, the partnership proves that multi‑vendor, standards‑based 5G NTN networks are not just possible, they’re ready for real‑world implementation.

DIFI plays a central role by enabling a consistent digital interface between software‑defined modem functions and high‑performance RF front‑end systems. This creates a truly modular architecture that simplifies integration and accelerates deployment for customers building next‑generation satcom services.

Simon Swift, Engineering Director of Digital Technologies at ETL Systems, said: “Achieving this end‑to‑end digitised solution for 5G NTN is a significant step forward, not just for us and our partners, but for the wider industry. It shows how open standards like DIFI can move interoperability from concept into real‑world deployment.”
